A photo here. A flyer there. A quick “Happy Monday” post. Maybe a sale announcement. Maybe a reel. Then we wait and hope somebody likes it, shares it, comments, messages, buys, books, calls, or magically understands what we meant.
That is where Sergio Torres challenged us.

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, the East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women’s Innovative Network gathered at Dos Molinos in Mesa for “Stop Posting. Start Converting: Social Media Marketing for Business Growth.” The session was presented by Sergio Torres, Multimedia Advertising Director, consultant, social media and branding expert with Plexus Group LLC. His presentation focused on using social media with purpose, creating content that connects, and turning online attention into real business opportunities.
And the message was simple:
Your social media should not just look busy.
It should work.
Start With Purpose (social media marketing for business growth)
One of the biggest takeaways from Sergio’s presentation was that every post needs a purpose.
Not every post has to sell. Not every post has to be perfect. But every post should do something.
It should educate, build trust, answer a question, show your value, create a conversation, invite people in, or guide someone to take the next step.
Because posting just to post is not a strategy. It is just digital noise with your logo on it.
And yes, we have all done it.

Tell a Story People Can Follow
Sergio also broke down storytelling into four simple parts: People. Place. Plot. Purpose.
That means your content should help your audience understand who the story is about, where it is happening, what problem is being solved, and what action they should take next. For example, instead of just saying, “We offer business services,” show the business owner who is overwhelmed and looking for clarity. Instead of saying, “Come visit us,” show the experience, the people, the culture, the reason someone should care. People connect with stories before they connect with offers. That is where good marketing starts.
Your Call to Action Matters
Another important reminder was this:
Do not make people guess what to do next.
If you want them to call, say it.
If you want them to register, say it.
If you want them to visit your website, say it.
If you want them to send a message, say it.
A call to action is not being pushy. It is being clear.
Most people are busy. They may like what you posted, but if you do not guide them, they will keep scrolling. A strong call to action helps turn attention into a real opportunity.

Why This Event Matters
This is exactly why EVHCC creates spaces like the Women’s Innovative Network.
Business owners do not just need more events. They need rooms where they can learn something useful, meet the right people, and leave with ideas they can actually use.
Sergio gave our community a practical reminder that social media is not about chasing trends. It is about communication, strategy, and connection. And the best part is, this conversation is not over. The full video from Sergio’s presentation is coming soon, and we encourage every business owner, entrepreneur, professional, and chamber member to watch it.
Because your next customer may already be watching you online.
The real question is:
Are you giving them a reason to take the next step?
